2001 Race 9 - Showtime R/C Speedway

The series made it's 3rd trip to Bakersfields' Showtime Speedway for race #9. Speeds have been increasing all year long at the little bull-ring. Gary Hamilton and Brian Boudakian continue to battle for the top of the mountain in the speed game in Expert Modified. The 19t guys seem to be a little quicker with each outting and that competition is always fierce.

Sportsman Stock was a good battle between Sam Chaloupka who has locked up the class championship and Eric Brust who recently returned to the hobby after a short retirement. Brust went on to beat Chaloupka. Scott McCaa, Don Smith and Marvin Avila were the top 5 finishers.

Sportsman Modified drivers Eric Brust and Ed Turney battled for the pole position throughout the qualifying rounds, Brust won the qualifying battle but it was Ed Turney who took the main event win. Scott McCaa, Kevin Kilber and T.J. Kendall rounded out the top five spots.

19t Spec Mod, had the closest points battle going on. Nic Case and Larry Ruby are head to head as the series starts to wind down. The pair head into Bakersfield seperated by only a couple points, so this weekend is important for maintaining the lead. Paul Cathey was the driver who had the luck today though as he pulled out the main victory. Case got caught up in a first lap incident taking him out of the event and Larry Ruby didn't fair much better only managing to pull off a 6th place finish. The Championship will now come down to the final event in Camarillo.

TheExpert Modified guys are always fast at Showtime.and all too often it's Gary Hamilton and Brian "Big B" Boudakian who are doing battle for the win. Well there was no suprise this weekend as it was Hamilton running a 50/4:03.52 to Boudakian's 50/4:04.60. Nic Case was third with Leo Tarpley and Brad Long making up the top 5.
