2002 Race 6 - Freedom Park, Camarillo CA

[Camarillo, CA]by Joe Myers - The flat little "paper clip" shaped track in Camarillo brought out the oval racers this month.  Although hated by some of the diehard "SPEED" loving racers this track always puts out some of the best competition.  The surface is usually a little slippery and set up and driving skill by far out shines the Hot motors and batteries.

Sportsman Stock  - Joe Hawkins found himself with the fastest time of the day out qualifying defending class champion Sam Chaloupka.  When main event time came it was the two drivers who are locked up in the points championship battle who made thier way to the front.  Steve Jacquez and Lou Maldonado finished with 32 lap runs with third place going to Don Smith running 31. 

Sportsman Modified - Ed Turney has been showing his muscle all year long in this class.  Turney took the TQ honors again this month running a 36/4:04.06 to Donn Natale's 35/4:02. 79.   Again it was Turney who came home 1st in the "A" Main beating out Ron Scott who would come home in 2nd and Steve Jacquez who finished 3rd.

The 19t Spec Mod class came on strong this weekend.  Eric Greco pulled off the quick run of the day (39/4:04.99) edging 2nd qualifier Paul Cathey by nearly 3 seconds.  In the main it was current point leader Paul Cathey who would take the win when the car of Duane Silva ran a little too close to the ragged edge.  Larry Ruby would finish behind Silva in the 3rd spot with Jason Hastings and Greco finishing up the top 5. 

Expert Modified had a great field with Associated's Daryl Silva & Sean Cochran along with RaceTech drivers Brian Boudakian and Gary Hamilton.
