2003 Race 5 - FREEDOM PARK RACEWAY
Saturday, June 7, 2003[Camarillo, CA]by Joe Myers - The TOUR rolled into Camarillo's FREEDOM PARK RACEWAY home of the Ventura Roadrunners R/C Club. The racing on this track is always a challenge due to low traction and narrow lanes.
Sportsman Stock saw Art Hernandez and Joe Hawkins put on a great battle for the lead, not too far back was Mike Plant who ended up finishing in the 3rd spot.
Sportsman Modified had to be one of the ugliest mains I've ever seen or been a part of. It seemed most of us had more power then we could drive and never did hit a good set up, but Carlton Duty had no struggle as he was the class of the field TQ'ing and winning the main.
19t Spec. Mod seems to be losing some of it's racers. The field for what was last years biggest, most competitive class was pretty light today. Paul Cathey had his ride pretty well dialed and took the main win.
The KISBEY Zero*/19t class (non-points class) looked to be a lot of fun today. Scot Petitclerc ran out front but slipped back to 4th when Nic Case went to the front. Dave Barber grabbed 2nd and Kyle I 3rd just edging Petitclerc out by .2 seconds.
There was a good showing for Expert Stock this weekend and Bryan Blaser looked like the car to beat. In the main it looked like Blaser was going to run away with it, but bad luck bit him and he fell back and Jason Ertrachter was able to grab the lead. Ertrachter would go on to win with with Kyle I, and Steve Taffert rounding out the top 3. Blaser would end up back in the 6th spot.
Suzie Anderson won the NOVICE/STOCK class and Steve Taffert took the win in the 1/12th scale main.
