I heard it asked...where was everybody this month? I don't know, but I can say those who did show up at HotRod Hobbies for race 7 had a good time. Lou Maldonado did a great job getting the track dialed for a fast track.
It was a little disappointing to have such a small showing at one of the best tracks the "TOUR" visits, but racers do have lives too, and with summer coming to an end it's nothing we haven't dealt with before.
Nearly 30 racers did show up and put on a great show. Both STOCK and SPORTSMAN MODIFIED had full 10 car "A" Mains, 19t had 7 entries and the rookie class had 3 racers.
Stock class saw regulars Larry Ruby and Scot Petitclerc battling for TQ and trying to reach that 41 lap mark. Petitclerc would get the TQ points, just missing the 41 lapper with a run of 40/4:00.36. Petitclerc grabbed the holeshot in the main but Ruby was able to get around and take the lead, running some of the fastest laps in this class I've seen. Ruby was able to rip off a couple of fast 5.7 second laps, helping him to his first 41 lap run of the day. Petitclerc came out with the point advantage by virture of his TQ and finishing 2nd. Carlton Duty slipped into the 3rd spot and Dave Barber came home 4th.
Sportsman Modified's Art Hernandez has been HOT all season, there was no exception this weekend. Art again took the Top Qualifying points and just ran away with the main putting several laps on the field. Charlie Roark with one of his best days in the class ran strong in qualifying, but his car got loose in the main and Roark had to settle for 6th. Keith Brown, just might be leading the way for the years most improved driver. Keith was strong in both the 19t class and the Sport Mod class. Brown would run 2nd to Hernandez in the main, while Michael Glass would finish 3rd.
The battle for the 19t class was very similar to that in Stock. That was mainly due to most of the drivers in this class also running in Stock. Again the TQ spot was a battle between Ruby and Petitclerc. This time Larry Ruby would get the TQ points, not to mention he would win the "A" main as well. Petitclerc continued his second place runs and Dave Barber would grab the 3rd spot.
