The Encino Velodrome in Southern California has been
the sight
of some of the fastest R/C Oval racing in history, this past weekends
race continued with speed in mind. Unlike events earlier in the year
when temperature were well over 100+ degrees, today the track was
nearly perfect. Cooler weather allowed speeds to increase to an all time
high in both Stock and Sportsman Modified. Buck Van Patten made his
record setting run in the 3rd qualifier in the Stock class. Buck ran
nearly
perfect run with his 25/5:06.
Scot Petitclerc got his first ever record run in the
Sportsman Mod "A" main.
Petitclerc has been struggling trying to get his Novak Brushless system
to make a 5 minute run without dumping. He could ran very fast for close
to 4 1/2 minutes, then his battery would give out and Scot would fade
backwards. It wasn't to be in the main, Petitclerc made a radical gear
change
and set out to WIN the Race instead of just going really fast. The 31 lap
run
in the main was nearly 2 seconds faster than the time laid down by Eric Brust
back in July.
Joe Blackburn, just off his win at the JPHRacing.com
carpet race in Stockton
made the trip to Encino from San Jose to take on the 19t guys on a weekend that
saw the return of Art Hernandez to the velodrome. Art has probably been
bitten
as hard, if not harder than anyone by the WALL and bad luck on this high speed
track.
Hernandez, who's run Modified in the past chose to
run a more under control 19t setup
and found it much more to his liking. While Blackburn set the TQ pace, Art
and Dave Barber (aka Luke Warmwater) and John Miles all set fast 27 lap times
keeping Blackburn in site.
