Season Finale @ the 'drome (Race #10)     The 2007 SWT season wound down at the Encino Velodrome in early December.  With a threat of rain looming overhead, most of the regular series racers still made the trip to end the year on the high banked bicycle track. The air temperature was cool, but the rain storm that had hit the day before was gone.   This left the track pretty clean, and cool which can produce some fast speeds. On hand for the first time this season were two of the NEW 21.5/LIPO cars that will be taking over as the "STOCK" class in '08.  Todays speeds had the NEW 21.5 turning in a benchmark time roughly 2 laps faster than the 27t/4cell Stock record.  Donn Natale set that mark, and that is what the drivers will be striving to beat neat season. Other notable runs include the battle between Nic Case and Richart Tompkins in the MODIFIED class.  Both of these drivers were laying down incredible lap times, and both ran  33 lap runs in qualifying and set lap times in the 8.7-8.8 second range. In the 17.5/LIPO class Larry Ruby was able to get the monkey off his back at the Velo this weekend.  Ruby who has struggled this season at the velo pulled together a couple great runs, edging out Brett Patti for both TQ and the MAIN win. Coming into this weekends event, all the championships had been sewn up except for the NASTRUCK class.  The trucks saw Brad Muther coming in with a slight advantage over Bryan Myers and John Miles. Brad took the bonus point for TQ, giving him a little breathing room over Myers, who ended up 2nd on the qualifying chart, but it was Muther and Miles who battled door to door in the main. Miles tried everyway he could to try to get around Muther, who was out front, but when the issue got forced it was Miles who got the worst of it, giving Brad enough of a lead to breathe a little.  Muther went on to WIN his first VELO race and secure his 2007 NASTRUCK Championship.   CONGRATULATIONS to ALL of the 2007 Champions   STOCK -
